Digital Cinema Systems Network Monitoring

Digital Cinema poses a unique challenge. Get the huge media files out to the servers and confirm that all is well -- And do this for thousands of screens.

Most network monitoring systems have two main shortcomnings in this regard.

  • A single network polling thread that cannot get the changing conditions and status of the thousands of devices fast enough to allow NOC personel to truly understand what is happening on the network.
  • There is no ability to track media. After an hour you might learn that a particular satellite receiver has lost lock but you cannot know what media it received or didn't receive.

MTD Systems third-generation network monitor has media-aware enhancements and is massively parallel to reflect the industries needs.

All of the data is collected, parsed, centralized, archived, and presented in a way that takes you quickly to points of issue. Look at the video demos to get an idea of what we mean.

We have tabular views, maps, equipment elevations (on site pictures if you'd like) and for fun we've added Google earth views: you can fly around the world and know within seconds where any difficulty may lie. Drilling in on any of these screens takes you to a device page where data can be seen in detail, current status as well as historic data, site notes, trouble tickets, and the media extensions.

Wrapped around the whole network an aggregation process tracks your media to ensure it is where it needs to be again with multiple ways to view the data and export it if you like.

We created MTD Sentry after trying to manage cutting edge video systems using standard network monitoring products. It just doesn't work.

Cutting edge systems don't fit the mold of traditional network monitoring. That's why we made MTD Sentry. It has all the tools in place to reach in and grab the data that you need using whatever means required -- we have all of that built in. Then the Sentry will digest it, collate it, create reports, and create a set of alerts that keep you on top of what is happening. Not only that, MTD Sentry is designed to do this at an enterprise level. The parts that make up your system don't have to be in the same room, the same building, the same state, or even the same country.

MTD Sentry collects data and presents it in a common display and alerting view for ease of management. Your views can be block diagrams, Icons, abstract drawings, or maps; it can even use Google Earth so you can zoom around the world and know what's going on.

MTD Systems offers the most complete network monitoring tools for today's multi vendor environment.  Media, data, and control pass between many different products from many different vendors. The MTD Systems solution integrates this complex interplay into a single, unified, network monitoring system. Our philosophy is to watch all of it, integrate the information and make it as meaningful as possible, look for the warnings and tell you about them. As you'll hear us say, "on-air failures don’t always have to happen, there are warnings first. Tell us what keeps you up at night and well help you design a network monitoring solution."
